Traveling to Europe with my parents

This was written while on the Carnival Magic during her inaugural cruise. I lost track of time while writing and didn’t have time to publish while on the ship.

I’m currently sitting on the balcony of my cabin onboard the Carnival Magic, the newest ship in the Carnival Cruise Lines’ fleet. This ship is a good bit of fun and is debuting so many new brands for Carnival Cruise Lines. I’m having an amazing time watching my parents enjoy their first cruise experience, and I’m also enjoying the various conversations I’ve had here and there with fellow travel bloggers and writers who were invited to be part of this inaugural cruise.

Traveling to Europe with my parents has been refreshing and brought me back to how it must feel for people who don’t travel very often. Not only did they pack enough luggage for a family of 14, but I also see how easy it is for people to get frustrated with air travel delays. We were stuck in the Atlanta airport for a five hour layover, at a time of night when the only food venue left open was a burrito shop. I also learned how hard it is for smokers to travel long distances via air. My dad is a smoker, and I now know where every smoking area is in the Atlanta and Amsterdam airports.

Fortunately, we finally made it to our destination of Venice, Italy after 28 hours of travel, layovers, and delays. It took a day or so on the Carnival Magic for my dad to get into the rhythm of cruise travel, but I think he’s got the hang of it. He’s had a nap every afternoon and has taken full advantage of the 24 hour room service. He’s finally relaxing, which is something he’s truly needed to do for a long time.

If you’d like to see some of my post regarding the Carnival Magic cruise launch, here are some of the updates so far:

I tasted a Bellini in the home of its creation – Harry’s Bar in Venice

A Bellini at Harry's Bar in Venice

I watched the Carnival Magic Arrive in Venice, attended the Carnival Magic Naming Ceremony, and settled into my balcony stateroom on the Carnival Magic. It was fun knowing we were the first passengers to sleep in that cabin.

Carnival’s Cloud 9 Spa – Mom and I enjoyed spa treatments while on the ship. We also celebrated Mother’s Day in a most unusual way compared to our normal Mother’s Day crawfish boils in Louisiana.

We ate so much, from the Lido Marketplace to room service, from port stop to port stop, and at the specialty dining on the Carnival Magic – Cucina del Capitano and Prime Steakhouse. I now need to either go on an intense diet, or just buy a whole new wardrobe.

I had more than a few visits to Carnival’s RedFrog Pub.

Of course, we did actually get off of the ship during the port stops, including a visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia and The Vatican Museum.

I’m really, really a fortunate person. Not only do I get to have amazing experiences all over the world, but this time I was able to bring my parents along.

This morning, I’m sitting quietly at our #Florida This morning, I’m sitting quietly at our #Florida home with a cup of @communitycoffee , watching the sun rise through the moss-draped trees. The temperature is mild, the birds are beginning their morning songs, and for a few moments, the world feels still.

I found myself wondering what the newly announced @dollyparton Community Coffee blend, “Cup of Ambition,” tastes like. I have a feeling I could use a little extra ambition these days.

I think it’s finally sinking in that this summer season looks very different than the past few years. Changes at the winery and an unpredictable cottage rental season in #Maine have added an unexpected layer of uncertainty. Life is beautiful, and I am deeply thankful for our many blessings, but even the best-laid plans sometimes don’t unfold the way we hoped.

Today, I don’t have all the answers. Today, I’m simply trying to let go and let God.

My time in Italy was meaningful in ways I am still unpacking. It wasn’t just an adventure. It was a chance to step away from everyday life and see things more clearly. I realized how much pressure I place on myself to be everything for everyone. The truth is, I’m getting a little older, and maybe it’s time to slow down a bit and stop carrying so much.

I’ve learned firsthand what stress can do to a person (have you read my book?), and I’ve also learned the healing that comes from stepping away from what no longer serves you. Since leaving my career in the Louisiana fire service, I’ve been remarkably healthy, and that says a lot.

So this morning, as the sun rises over the trees and the coffee warms my hands, I’m reminding myself to embrace this season, finish the projects waiting patiently for me, write more, and most importantly, find the joy again.

I have a feeling it’s still there, waiting for me. ☕️🌅

Y’all know I Iike to shop. And take lots of photos Y’all know I Iike to shop. And take lots of photos. When in Vatican City, I came across several exclusive Vatican treasures and one-of-a-kind keepsakes that simply can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
A Goodnight from Vatican City After weeks of wind A Goodnight from Vatican City

After weeks of winding roads, ancient cities, seaside villages, vineyards, and unforgettable moments, we have arrived at the final stop of our grand tour of Italy: Rome.

From my window, I have a beautiful up-close view of Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica, the heart of the Holy See. It feels like the perfect place to pause, reflect, and give thanks before our journey carries us back home.

Travel has a way of reminding us how vast the world is, yet how connected we all are through history, faith, family, and love. Soon, I will light a candle inside St. Peter’s Basilica in memory of those I have loved and lost. Though they are no longer walking beside me, they have been part of every step of this journey.

As this Italian adventure draws to a close, my heart is full…of gratitude, memories, and the quiet reminder that every ending is also the beginning of a new chapter.

Rome, you are a fitting finale.

As the sun slips behind the vines, the world seems to slow down. The conversations soften, the air cools, and for a moment, nothing is urgent.

Just the glow of the vineyard.
Just the beauty of being here.
