Spring Updates: Book Milestones, Podcast Magic, and the Beauty of Becoming

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions and milestones. I recently returned from a heartwarming trip to Louisiana, where I spent precious time with my grandbabies, reconnected with dear friends, and indulged in the soulful cuisine that always brings me comfort. The journey back to our cozy cottage in coastal Maine was long — but the memories, hugs, and beignets made it all worthwhile.

I’m beyond thrilled to share that my memoir, Of a Woman: the journey to becoming, reached the #2 spot in Women’s Biographies and Memoirs on Amazon last week. This milestone means more to me than I can fully express.

🎙️ New on the Podcast: Babies, Boudin, and Becoming

On the latest episode of Unpacked with Shannon DalPozzal, I talk about my return to Louisiana — the food, the family, the long flights, and the emotional reflections that always seem to hit me hardest when I’m between places.

From gas station boudin to grandbaby snuggles, this episode is a love letter to my roots and a reminder that becoming doesn’t end just because you’ve moved on.

👶 Meet Tripp, Our Newest Family Member

And in the most joyful news of all — we welcomed a new grandson into the world. He’s affectionately called Tripp (how fitting for a travel writer, right?). Holding him in my arms reminded me that the journey of becoming continues with every new chapter, and every tiny heartbeat that connects us to something bigger than ourselves.

Thank you, for being here. Whether you’re listening, reading, reflecting, or just passing through – I’m grateful.

Here’s to soft landings, unexpected detours, and the sacred, beautiful mess of becoming.

Enjoyed the Labor Day weekend with family, friends, and local wildlife. Hosting a lobster dinner with an evening fire pit by the water is quintessential Maine living. Blessed to have a spot on this quiet, undiscovered peninsula in MidCoast. #IYKYK
Some bottles of wine come with tasting notes. Othe Some bottles of wine come with tasting notes. Others come with stories. 🍷

A few years ago, James and I were leaving Venice for Naples when a train derailment completely changed our plans. A taxi, a rental car, and several hours later, we found ourselves unexpectedly driving through Tuscany.

Somewhere near Montepulciano, hunger (and curiosity) sent us down a few questionable back roads to a winery I found on the map.

And then there it was: @avignonesiofficial

We spent the afternoon in the Tuscan sunshine, tasting wine, sharing charcuterie, and laughing about how sometimes the best travel memories are the ones you never planned.

We shipped a case home to Maine, where the bottles have been resting in our cellar ever since.

This week, we decided it was time to stop saving them for “someday.”

We opened the 50 & 50, slightly chilled and decanted, and paired it with grilled tenderloin, fresh corn and asparagus. And over dinner, we traveled right back to that unexpected afternoon in Tuscany.

The wine was beautiful. Dinner was pretty darn good, too. 😉 And the company was the best part.

Maybe we spend too much of life saving the good things for a special occasion.

Open the bottle.
Make the dinner.
Tell the story.

Tuesday is special enough. 🍷🇮🇹
Last night, at the very end of August, we finally Last night, at the very end of August, we finally made it to @primorestaurant in Rockland, #Maine. It isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience.

I sipped a Summer Spritz with Maine blueberries before noshing on the last of the Squash Blossoms, a golden and flaky Halibut main dish, and a finale dessert of profiteroles filled with salted caramel gelato. Heavenly.

The pièce de résistance? Bringing home fresh zeppoles to accompany my morning coffee while working on September writing assignments here at @thebeehivecottage

Thank you @chefmelissak and team for this long-lasting culinary sanctuary, sharing your space and talents with visitors and locals alike. We are looking forward to enjoying @primoatgrandelakes during the winter season as things hibernate in Maine. Grazie mille!!!

Coffee in a mug that says “Enjoy the Journey.” ☕️

Low tide. Clear blue skies. And from Cushing Harbor, lobster boats are heading out for the day, the low murmur of their motors drifting across the water as they glide past.

No grand plans for this moment. Just coffee, fresh air, sunshine, and a reminder sitting right there in my hands:

Enjoy the journey.

Even the quiet parts. Maybe especially the quiet parts. ❤️

Sometimes courage looks like taking the leap. Som Sometimes courage looks like taking the leap.

Sometimes it looks like staying.

Sometimes it looks like letting go of what was, trusting what’s next, and giving yourself permission to not have all the answers yet.

This morning, courage looks like hot coffee, a quiet view, and another chance to begin. ☕️
