Kungfu Kitchen Brandon, Florida Restaurant Review: Hand-Pulled Noodles & Soup Dumplings Worth the Hype
There’s something special about being invited to experience a restaurant alongside fellow food lovers—especially when the concept has already earned recognition beyond its newest location.
Last night, James and I joined a small group of local food content creators for a hosted dinner at the newly opened Kungfu Kitchen in Brandon, Florida, part of a growing concept by Chef Peter Song. With roots in New York and expansion into Boston and Connecticut, this Florida debut has some big expectations to live up to.
Spoiler alert: it delivers.

First Impressions: Casual, Lively, and Full of Energy
Kungfu Kitchen offers a relaxed, casual dining environment with a subtle Shanghai-inspired aesthetic. It’s a walk-in-only setup—no reservations—and throughout the evening, there was a steady stream of takeout orders being picked up, always a good sign.
This isn’t a place for cocktails or a long, drawn-out dinner service. It’s about the food—fresh, fast, and thoughtfully prepared.
The Menu: Abundant (and Slightly Intimidating)
The menu is extensive—almost overwhelmingly so at first glance.
You’ll find:
- Soup dumplings (a signature)
- Steamed and pan-fried dumplings
- Steamed buns
- Hand-pulled and knife-cut noodle dishes
- Ramen soups
- Cold appetizers and hot plates
There are many choices, and I’ll admit—I had a brief moment of menu stage fright.

James gravitated toward what he loves most: steamed pork dumplings.
I, on the other hand, leaned into something a bit richer and ordered the pan-fried Peking duck buns.

We both landed on the same entrée:
Stir-fried hand-pulled noodles with chicken.
And I have to mention—pricing here is incredibly reasonable:
- Duck buns: $9.95
- Dumplings: $10.50
- Noodle entrée: $15.95
High-quality food at approachable price points always gets my attention.
The Experience: Fresh, Flavorful, and Worth the Wait
When the food arrived, it was everything you hope for—steaming hot, aromatic, and beautifully presented.
I started with a sip of my lychee slushy (a last-minute discovery from the front menu board), which turned out to be the perfect refreshing complement while everything cooled.
Then came the moment of truth.
James’s steamed pork dumplings were delicate, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The texture alone told the story—these weren’t rushed or mass-produced. These were crafted.
My pan-fried Peking duck buns were equally impressive—perfectly crisped on the outside with just a hint of sweetness, giving way to juicy, savory duck inside. A standout.
And then…the noodles.
The hand-pulled noodle dish was, quite simply, exceptional. Tender, chewy in the best way, and coated in a flavorful stir-fry that felt both comforting and elevated. James finished every bite of his. I was happily distracted by conversation and ended up taking the rest home—something I was not mad about.

A Small Detail That Made a Big Impression
When our leftovers arrived, they came in what may be the most thoughtfully designed takeout bag I’ve ever seen—a reusable, foil-lined bag with a Velcro closure and handles.
It’s a small detail, but one that speaks volumes about the brand. Smart, practical, and memorable.

Final Thoughts: A Worthy Addition to Florida’s Food Scene
On the drive home, James and I kept coming back to the same conclusion:
Those dumplings.
Those noodles.
Some of the best we’ve had—anywhere.
Kungfu Kitchen in Brandon brings a level of quality and consistency that feels both intentional and exciting for the Florida dining scene. It’s approachable, affordable, and focused on doing a few things exceptionally well.
And now? We’re already planning to check out the Orlando locations to see if they deliver the same experience.

Shannon’s Take
If you love dumplings, noodles, and discovering spots that balance quality with value, Kungfu Kitchen is absolutely worth a visit.
Just be prepared to take a moment with the menu—and maybe bring someone who’s willing to share.
