A Luxe 3-Day Weekend in Midcoast Maine
Planning a trip to Midcoast Maine can feel overwhelming…there are just so many beautiful harbors, incredible restaurants, and charming inns to choose from. That’s why I’ve pulled together a simple yet indulgent 3-day itinerary that captures the best of the region. Think boutique accommodations with harbor views, wine flights in a restored barn, oysters by the water, sunset sails, and even a lobster roll with Champagne.

This luxe weekend plan blends refined dining with low-key coastal moments, so you can experience the Midcoast like a local while still savoring those little luxuries that make a trip unforgettable. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifteenth, here’s how I’d spend three days soaking up the best of Midcoast Maine.
Day 1: Arrival & Harbor Views
- Afternoon Check-In: Settle into your lodging, whether it’s the cozy charm of The Beehive in Cushing or the fireplace-equipped Rockport Harbor Hotel.
- Late Afternoon Cocktails: Head to the Oak Room at Rockport Harbor Hotel for a harbor-view cocktail, or make a reservation at The Norumbega for intimate small plates and a glass of wine.
- Dinner: Walk or drive over to 18 Central Oyster Bar & Grill for a seafood-focused dinner with a rotating raw bar selection.
- Evening Wind-Down: If the weather cooperates, stroll the harbor before retreating to your room (if staying in Rockport) perhaps with a nightcap of Champagne or sparkling rosé you’ve brought along.
Day 2: Food, Wine & Coastal Adventure
- Morning: Enjoy breakfast at your inn (or a latte from a local café in Camden). If staying in Rockport, the Oak Room is a great spot for a leisurely start.
- Late Morning: Take a short drive to Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville. Sip curated wine flights in a restored barn with vineyard views, and enjoy the thoughtful food pairings if you are lucky enough to get one of the often sold out seats to the Food & Wine Pairing luncheons.
- Afternoon Activity: Choose your adventure:
- A sailing excursion out of Camden Harbor (champagne optional, but highly recommended).
- A hike or walk at Clark Island Nature Preserve (steps away from The Craignair Inn), or Pleasant Point Nature Preserve near Cushing.
- Dinner: Go refined with a reservation at Primo in Rockland for farm-to-table fine dining, or opt for a cozy, wine-centric evening at In Good Company.
- Evening: Cap the night with a cocktail at The Vintage Room at 16 Bay View or Natalie’s porch at Camden Harbour Inn for a Relais & Châteaux experience.
Day 3: Slow Morning & Farewell Flavors
- Breakfast: Enjoy a luxurious start, perhaps at Astor & Rose (if staying at The Youngtown Inn), known for elegant plating and quality coffee. Or check out Buttermilk Kitchen in Camden.
- Midday Experience: Before heading out, indulge in a massage at The Craignair Inn, followed by a peaceful walk through Clark Island Nature Preserve. The quiet water views make for a grounding goodbye to the Midcoast.
- Lunch: If you’re here in season, end your trip at McLoon’s Lobster Shack in South Thomaston. BYOB a chilled bottle of Champagne or sparkling rosé for a “low-key luxe” lobster roll experience with unbeatable views.
A weekend in Midcoast Maine can be as refined or relaxed as you make it. From boutique inns and curated wine tastings to oyster bars, schooner sails, and lobster shacks by the sea, this itinerary captures the region’s unique blend of charm and luxury.
